Rollover deaths climb: why ROPS retrofits matter more than ever
Older tractors without rollover protection remain the deadliest machines on the farm. Retrofit programs can cut the cost.

Tractor rollovers remain the leading cause of farm fatalities, and safety researchers say the common thread is age: older machines built before rollover protective structures became standard are vastly overrepresented in fatal incidents.
A ROPS paired with a seatbelt is one of the most effective safety interventions in all of agriculture, with studies showing it dramatically reduces the chance of death in an overturn. The problem is that thousands of older tractors still in daily use never came with one.
Several states and nonprofits run rebate programs that cover much of the cost of a retrofit, often bringing an owner's out-of-pocket expense down to a fraction of the full price. Safety advocates urge anyone running a pre-ROPS tractor on slopes, near ditches, or with a loader to look into a kit before the next close call becomes a tragedy.

Lost a neighbor to a rollover on a ditch bank. Retrofitted mine the next week. No regrets.
