X590 vs X758 vs 1025R — which one should I buy?

Moving to 15 hilly acres and weighing a lawn tractor against a sub-compact with a loader. Help me decide.

Hi all. I am contemplating which setup to go with. It would be nice to have a loader, but I probably wouldn't use it frequently. I primarily reside in VA but also have property in AK. Currently I have 1/3 acre, but I'm moving to a property with 15 acres (hilly with a bit of rocks here and there). What I need to do: 1) fill/grade my lawn, 2) aerate/de-thatch (pull-behind is fine), 3) run a spreader, 4) fit a snowblower/plow. Nice-to-haves down the road: a loader, backhoe, tiller. The price spread is deep (~$23k for a 1025R with a loader, more with a backhoe and deck). I was leaning X758, but for the money the 1025R seems a lot more versatile. I'm done fixing things all the time — I want something with a warranty and parts support. My dealer recommended an S180 or X350 and said anything bigger would be overkill on my current property. What would you guys suggest?

If you have a little patience to search, lower-hour machines are out there — a relatively new, low-hour, well-equipped 1025R pops up fairly often. If you are moving to 15 acres, I would go the 1025R. I have 6 acres and a 2002 X585 with 560 hours; it didn't come with a loader but I added a 45 loader within three months. I only use the loader a few times a year, but it's right there when I need it. If cutting your lawn is the priority, the X758 route is great too. In the end, for versatility right out of the gate, the 1025R is your best bet, especially moving to that 15-acre lot.

I have both the X758 and the 1026R with FEL. I'm approaching 370+ hours on the 1026R (delivered March 2013) and 40+ hours on the X758 (August 2024). I run a TekTite cab on the 1026R for winter snow blowing up in the Lake Michigan snow belt. With the cab it can feel top-heavy on some of my hills and I have to plan my route carefully — I've tipped it once. The X758 with the drive-over deck does a great job mowing. For 11.5 acres with lots of rocks, I run Gator G6 blades and rarely bend them. Both are excellent; it just depends on how much loader work you'll really do.

jwdt — how about a 2020 1025R w/ FEL, 60" drive-over auto-connect deck w/ mulcher, rear weight box, rear tire weights, turf tires, and 35 hrs? Located in Syracuse, NY.

With 15 acres, 1025R or bigger. Like has been said already, there are lots of used low-hour machines out there. Good luck!

Based on your wants, a subcompact or above could be perfect, but I'd wait until you can test one on your 15-acre property because of the hilly-with-rocks comment — you may end up needing more than one machine. For the current property I'd recommend an X370, X390, or X394 because they have easily serviceable transmissions (drain plug and changeable filter). The X500 series could also do the job; a 42" deck will fit an X590 regardless of what the dealer says. But hold off on anything bigger than an X300/X500 until you're actually on that 15-acre place, and find a dealer who will let you test a 1025R or bigger on that terrain first. You don't want a machine that's too tippy for your hills.

Thanks guys — looks like I'll be going with an X590 (with attachments) plus a 1025R in the future. As much as I want the 1025R now, it wouldn't make sense until I move. Could definitely use it in AK, but I'm not going to haul a machine back and forth between VA and AK.
