New Holland is bringing a continuously variable transmission to its value-oriented Workmaster utility tractors, a feature long reserved for pricier machines. The company says the CVT option targets operators who spend hours on loader work and PTO tasks where infinitely variable speed control pays off.

Trickle-down of premium transmissions into entry and mid lineups has been a quiet trend across the industry, as buyers who tried CVTs on bigger equipment come looking for the same ease of use on smaller units.

Pricing will determine how much of a hit the option becomes. New Holland positioned the Workmaster as a no-frills workhorse, and dealers will be watching whether the CVT premium pulls buyers up or simply pushes price-sensitive shoppers toward the standard gear and shuttle setup.
